- Choose a sunny position with well‑drained, fertile soil.
- Remove all weeds and dig in plenty of well‑rotted manure or compost.
- Space plants about 250cm apart.
- Soak the roots in water for 1-2 hours before planting.
- Set up a support system, such as wires, a fence, or a trellis before planting.
- Place the plant in the hole with the soil mark on the stem, level with the surrounding soil.
- Backfill with soil and gently firm around the roots to remove air pockets.
- Water well after planting and keep watered during dry periods while the plant establishes.
- Tie the canes onto the support as they grow.
