- Plant between September-November in mild, sheltered areas. Â
- These are half-hardy and can tolerate light overnight frosts but not prolonged cold conditions. Â
- Soak the claws in water for 3-12 hours before planting. Â
- Start the claws individually in 9cm pots and grow them on in a cool greenhouse or frost-free place. Â
- Once the risk of frost has passed, plant directly into a sunny border or container. Â
- When transplanting, make sure the roots are not disturbed. Â
- Alternatively, plant directly outdoors once the risk of frost has passed. Â
- If the soil is heavy, loosen it to a depth of around 5cm. Â
- Mix in organic matter to improve drainage and soil quality. Â
- Place the claws with the claw-like roots facing downwards. Â
- Space the claws 10cm apart. Â
- Gently cover the claws and lightly compress the soil. Â
- Water lightly after planting and shoots usually appear after around 4-8 weeks. Â
