- After receiving the potatoes, lay them out into shallow boxes or trays and store in a cool area away from frost.
- Chit the potatoes two weeks before you plan to plant them.
- Move them into a light area which is around 10c until strong shoots are produced.
- The potatoes can turn green when exposed to light, but this is normal.
- For best results, grow in potato bags as these are easier to protect against frost.
- Alternatively, grow in a polytunnel or greenhouse to reduce frost damage.
- The potatoes should be planted 30-35cm apart from each other.
- Make sure the eyes are facing upwards and planted at a depth of 10-15cm.
- Ideal soil conditions for potatoes are sandy loam soils.
- As the plants grow, earth up by adding compost to cover the growth.
- Water as needed during dry spells.
- Cover with fleece if a frost is predicted.
- Harvest mid-late December when the foliage dies back.
