A true hardy perennial, Antwerp reaches 6-7 feet producing large 3-5in single saucer shaped flowers from My to Oct across a wide colour range of yellow, copper, pink, red, and white. Blooms the first year. A large attraction is the higher resistance to rust compared to most other varieties. Originating from Siberia it is exceptionally cold hardy. Parts of the plant are edible – The flowers can be crystallised and used to decorate cakes, mousses and roulades or try mixing them with salad leaves for a stunning dish. Flowers can also be used to make a subtly flavoured syrup to add to various puddings. Before eating , remove the centre stamen and any green bits.
