- Surface sow seeds thinly between May and July on well-drained compost.
- Cover lightly with glass or polythene to retain moisture.
- Keep them out of direct sunlight to prevent overheating.
- Remove the cover as soon as seedlings emerge to allow fresh air circulation and prevent damping off.
- When seedlings are large enough to handle, prick them out into trays spaced 5cm apart or into individual pots.
- Grow the seedlings in a cool, shaded location, keeping the compost lightly moist but not waterlogged.
- Harden off seedlings gradually before planting them in their flowering site in September.
- It will flower the following spring.
