- Sow directly between March-September.
- Prepare the soil and rake it to loosen the soil.
- Sow 12-18 seeds per 30cm.
- Sow heavily in drills which 30mm deep and are 30cm apart, then cover with soil.
- Germination is best in cool soil.
- Avoid sowing in very hot weather as this can affect germination.
- Germination typically occurs in 14-24 days depending on conditions, this may be slower in colder weather.
- Thin seedlings as they grow, using the thinnings as baby leaves.
- Harvest leaves as needed, taking a few from each plant to encourage continuous growth.
- Protect with netting to prevent pests, and cover late crops with a cloche to protect against frost.
