- Sow the seeds indoors from January-April, at a depth of around 10 mm.
- Place 4 seeds per 8cm pot.
- Keep at a temperature of 10-15c.
- Germination should occur between 14-21 days.
- Once the first set of true leaves has developed, thin the seedlings to the strongest plant per pot.
- Gradually acclimatise the seedlings before planting outside when they are around 15cm tall.
- Make a hole around 15cm deep using a dibber and place the seedling inside.
- Fill the hole with water rather than soil, allowing the soil to settle naturally around the roots.
- Alternatively, sow directly outdoors between March-April.
- As the seedlings grow, thin them to around 20cm apart.
- Regularly weed and water the area as needed.
- Earth up around the stems as they grow to help produce longer white shanks.
- Harvest alternate plants from autumn through winter.
