Soapwort Saponaria Ocymoides
Soapwort Saponaria Ocymoides. Commonly referred to as Soapwort, this is the creeping version which will reach no more than 10cm and spread around 40cm. A fantastic ground cover perennial creating a deep green carpet on rockeries or over walls with an outstanding display of deep-bright pink flowers in mid summer.

Cultivation Advice Soapwort Saponaria Ocymoides
- Best sown spring or autumn avoiding warmest temperatures.
- Best soil temperature for germination 15-20 C.
- To increase germination rate place see packet if fridge 0-4C for 2 weeks to break the seeds dormancy.
- Ideally sow from Jan – Apr under-cover with heat provided.
- Surface sow the seed finely on fine, well draining growing medium. Do not cover, seed needs light to germinate. Can be placed in clear plastic bag to retain moisture.
- Germination 14-28 days in correct conditions.
- When large enough to handle transplant to 3” pots. Handle via the leaves do not damage the stems.
- Grow on and when large enough plant to the growing position in mid to late summer. Ensue the soil is high in grit content and free draining in full sun.
- Readily self-seeds.
